Opinions on Toto - Toto (1978)

Released in 1978, Toto marked a confident debut from a group of elite session musicians stepping into the spotlight as a cohesive band. Blending rock, pop, funk, and subtle jazz influences, the album showcases both technical precision and an instinct for accessible songwriting. Anchored by standout tracks like “Hold the Line” and "Georgy Porgy," Toto’s first record strikes a balance between polished studio craftsmanship and radio-ready hooks, setting the foundation for the band’s commercial and artistic trajectory.

Track Review

1. Child's Anthem

3/5

Not a fan and didn't hate it. Its an instrumental that I will be skipping in future.

2. I'll Supply The Love

3.5/5

Funky and fun. Lyrics are fine though I would ask what do you mean by 'dark persuasion'? Because it can mean something very wrong!

3. Georgy Porgy

5/5

Can't get enough of this. It's so good. Fun, funky and has a bit of melancholy in it. Something in it scratches just the right part of my brain. This song is the reason I started listening to Toto - not Africa.

4. Manuela Run

4/5

Spotify didn't have lyrics for it which is always fun. Google to the rescue!

Initially this song was a 3.5 but then the words elevated it to 4. I feel like I am the subject of the song and they are telling me 'it'll be alright' - and I'm all for it.

5. You Are the Flower

2.5/5

Didn't feel it. Just middle of the road.

6. Girl Goodbye

4/5

Love the start. Love the music. Also jiving with the lyrics. Good one.

7. Takin' It Back

3/5

The slow sounds usually enchant me but this didn't at all.

8. Rockmaker

3.5/5

Fun. Didn't hate it, didn't like it.

9. Hold the Line

4/5

As soon as music starts you realize its a classic. Just simply a well made song. But I also feel like I've heard it like 1000 times.

10. Angela

3.5/5

Started out slow and I thought it will remain that way until it didn't. Nice and fun closer.

Overall Rating

3.5/5

Has one of my favorite songs in the track list.
